OUR STORY
HOW IT BEGAN...
In 1987, Brian Mullany met Suellen Patterson.
On 7 October 1989 (their wedding day) Brian began the first plantings at Grove Estate. These vineyards now comprise 100 hectares of vines.
The Grove Estate Cellar Door was established in 1999, in a former cherrypickers' shed.
The partnership of viticulturist Brian Mullany with winemakers including
Tim Kirk and Bryan Martin has resulted in a run of notable wines. These have received acclaim at wine shows in Australia and overseas.
OUR VINEYARD
Brian and his team grow cool climate wine grapes in the Hilltops' red volcanic soils. Hilltops grapes, including those from Grove Estate, have won prestigious awards including the Jimmy Watson in 2010, and the Finest Shiraz in Australia in the Great Australian Shiraz Tasting in 2014. The range of sites, soil types, and unique micro-climates allows for a diversity of grape varieties from the one GI.
Since 1989, over 50 hectares of vines have been planted on the property, including the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Zinfandel, Barbera, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Semillon and Nebbiolo.
In 1997, the partners of Grove Estate decided to keep a small parcel of fruit and produce a range of wines under their own label. The first wine released was a 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, a selection of reds and whites are made.
